Cinco De Mayo is such a fun holiday to celebrate with elementary students. It is a great opportunity to teach about the history behind Cinco De Mayo as well as Mexican culture.
In the United States, Cinco De Mayo is celebrated with Mexican food, music, and fun activities. How awesome would it be to include some of these fiesta components into your educational day?
Here are 5 educational and fun fiesta -themed activities to try in your classroom.
1.Cinco De Mayo read alouds - Cinco De Mayo is a great time to read fun books centered around Mexican culture or about Cinco De Mayo . I love the idea for reading one non-fiction text about the holiday and one fictional book just for fun! Here are a few fiesta-themed fictional read aloud ideas:
2. Fiesta themed writing - Have students write about what they would do if they planned a fiesta OR have students write about their favorite Mexican food dish. Not only are these fun writing prompts, it will also get students to write creatively.
3. Fiesta Math - For different holidays, I love doing color by codes. Not only do students practice their math skills, they also get a chance to color a beautiful picture. I have a few fiesta-themed color by codes in my TPT store that your students are sure to love!
4. Art Activities - Have students make maracas using beans and paper plates. Have them color their maracas to extend the activity and add more creativity!
5. BINGO - Have students play BINGO or Loteria to end the day! This is a great time to teach Spanish vocabulary terms.
With these fun fiesta - themed activities, you and your students are SURE to have a wonderful day!
