Welcome to the month of December! December can be such a great month for teaching and bonding with your first or second grade students!
There are so many ways you can incorporate holiday or winter themes into your instruction that will allow students to learn AND enjoy the fun of the holiday season.
Here are. few printable resources that are perfect for December and Christmas season:
Holidays Around the World:
Teach students about a variety of winter holidays that are celebrated in different cultures! This unit is a great way to teach about diversity and can be used whether your students celebrate Christmas or not.
I use this activity bundle as it features ELA, writing, math, and extra fun bonus activities so I can teach all my usual content with a holiday spin!
Christmas writing activities:
During Christmas time, my students enjoy drawing Christmas-themed objects. This directed drawing activity gives them step-by-step drawing instructions so they learn how to draw Christmas items.
The best part? There are 3 types of writing prompts that encourage students to produce creative, narrative, and opinion writing pieces.
Christmas math:
Throughout the years, I have enjoyed having my students complete color by number activities during holidays. Not only do students get a chance to practice adding and subtracting, they also get to color a holiday-themed picture.
Find my favorite Christmas color by number activity HERE.
Bonus fun activities:
During the Christmas and holiday season, I like to give students bonus fun activities to keep them motivated to learn during such an exciting time.
I use drawing glyphs as a fun way to learn about my students. Students produce a unique art piece based on their answers to a variety of Christmas-themed questions.
Check out my favorite HERE.
