Tips for Using Class Dojo for Parent Communication

Updated: May 17, 2024

Are you looking for a way to improve parent communication for your classroom? Look no further than Class Dojo!

Class Dojo is my absolute favorite app to use for parent communication for so many reasons. Not only is Class Dojo accessible on any device, it also has a number of features that can allow parents to stay informed about everything from classroom events to student behavior.

Here are a few of my favorite Class Dojo features:

Classroom Story - I love using the Class Story feature on Class Dojo. It serves as somewhat of a social media feed for the classroom. It is the perfect place to post images of things you've done in class or even for posting class events.

I like to use these newsletters that are perfectly sized to be viewed on the Class Story to give parents an overview of what is coming up each month.

Events - I use the events feature on Class Dojo to inform parents about different classroom and school events. The best part of this feature is that you can set up reminders so that parents can be reminded of the events coming up WELL before they start.

Class Chat - I use the Class Chat feature for those days when I need to quickly remind parents about something or make a quick announcement. I most commonly use this feature when students need to bring something back to school. This way, every parent receives the same alert and notification at the same time.

Points for behavior - This is easily my favorite feature from Class Dojo, but also a commonly known feature. I love this feature because I can reward students from my phone or on the classroom computer without showing the entire class.

Using behavior points is also great because it creates a place for documentation that shows how well students are doing in class. Parents or guardians also get to see their students progress which can help keep them in the loop of student behavior.

Messaging - I use this feature DAILY. I love that I can quickly send and receive messages from parents. It is great for sharing great news and also checking in about student goals.

What I love most is that I can set away hours so that parents know I will get back to them when I return to school.

Class Dojo Newsletters:

Want to take your Class Dojo communication to the next level?

Grab these newsletters that fit perfectly on Class Dojo's story to give parents a monthly overview.

Best part? It eliminates the need for paper newsletters!
